BBQ Chicken with Homemade Sauce

There are several foods that absolutely change their flavor when grilled outside on a grill. BBQ Chicken is definitely one of those foods. And this BBQ Chicken with Homemade Sauce takes it to a whole new level.

If I learned anything from my dad it was patience…, especially in the kitchen. My dad knew how to lose himself in his cooking. Whether it was making his favorite stew or bbq his chicken on the grill. He would love sitting outside watching his chicken and basting it over and over again. It was his therapy and he loved it. So when I like to make my own bbq chicken on the grill and think about him.

This homemade bbq sauce is actually made from scratch! We call it Java Shoppe Homemade BBQ sauce after my in-laws’ restaurant. They made this all the time in their restaurant and passed it along to us. It’s really sweet with a kick of hot sauce.

There are two ways you can make your bbq chicken. One is to put the chicken on the grill for a few minutes without the sauce and add it once the skin starts to cook. I like to put the bbq sauce on from the beginning to get that really deep grill on each piece.

Flip your chicken every few minutes and add more sauce with each flip. The chicken will take about 30 minutes total or until the temperature reaches between 180° and 190°.

Let cook and serve! It’s perfect for a summer bbq!  And what goes best with a summer bbq?  A Pinot Gris or a Chardonnay!  Either will work, just make it cold!
