Granny Smith Apples are used in this apple galette recipe

Let’s Get Baking

You can really use any king of baking apple you like. For this recipe, I used Granny Smith apples. Here’s what else you need:

  • Pie Crust (homemade or store-bought)
  • Brown Sugar
  • Lemon Juice
  • Cinnamon
  • Nutmeg
  • Egg for wash
  • Turbinado Sugar

Start with removing the skin from the apple and cut into slices.

Put the apple slices into a bowl filled with the brown sugar, lemon juice, cinnamon, and nutmeg. Make sure each apple slice is covered in the sauce.

Roll out the pie crust and place the apples in the middle. Leave at least two inches around the edges and roll over the ends. Pour the rest of the sauce over the apples and bake for 20-25 minutes or until the crust is starting to brown.

Notes

  • This recipe calls for Granny Smith apples but you can use Honeycrisp, Braeburn, or Pink Ladies.
  • A Puff Pastry sheet can also be used for this galette instead of a pie crust.
  • I used Turbinado sugar as a topping to the crust. This sugar is thicker and works great with the egg wash. But if you don’t have it, regular granulated sugar will also work.
