Grilled Watermelon with Goat Cheese

There are so many foods that say summer to me — hot dogs & hamburgers, ice cream, corn on the cob and watermelon! But only one of those actually smells like summer! I love the fresh smell of watermelon and when you add my favorite cheese to it, you have Grilled Watermelon with Goat Cheese!

Ahh — does it get any better than that!

I’ve actually never grilled watermelon until now. I found it takes longer than I thought it would take and it’s extremely wet and watery (I did expect that). But I will say, there is no denying the flavor of the fresh watermelon with goat cheese and a little basil!

After I cut the watermelon into triangles, I put it on an already hot grill. If you want the grill marks, and who doesn’t :), you can leave it on each side for several minutes.

The grill marks give the watermelon another “summer” element. It’s also very flavorful!

I sprinkled some fresh basil from our garden on top.

I then added the goat cheese. It’s alright to be generous with the cheese.  If you don’t like goat cheese or want to try something different, you can use feta cheese, gorgonzola cheese or even blue cheese.  I like the white soft cheese better than parmesan or a cheddar mix.

This makes a wonderful appetizer or even dessert. I always love when I am served cheese for dessert. Cheese is a luxury and is wonderful after a meal.

  • Watermelon, sliced
  • Fresh Basil
  • Goat Cheese, crumbled
  • Salt for taste, if desired


  • Heat grill on high
  • Cut Watermelon into triangle slices
  • Grill on both sides of the watermelon until you get the desired char
  • Let cool and add chopped basil and sprinkle crumbled goat cheese
  • Add a pinch of salt if desired

    1. Maybe just try one piece and see what you think! If you don’t want to grill it, you can cut it up with the basil and goat cheese. It makes a good cold salad too!
