Grandma’s Molasses Cookies

I would guess most people who enjoy molasses cookies do so because of a great family recipe! That’s the case for my family. In fact, my husband’s grandmother had 3 recipes for molasses cookies. So I went into her wooden recipe box (that is filled with amazing treats by the way) to find this recipe for Grandma’s Molasses Cookies!

There is nothing fancy about these cookies — there’s no special Christmas tree shape or green sprinkles luring us in. These are simple but delicious cookies that remind me of the holiday season — and that’s what makes them special.

I can remember the first time I visited my husband’s home for the holidays. His family was so inviting and the food was extremely memorable. But his Grandma outdid herself when it came to holiday treats, especially cookies. I can actually remember bringing home molasses cookies from our trip and barely getting them home because we ate almost the entire bag.

Once you combine all of the wet and dry ingredients, each cookie will be rolled up in a ball and bathed in sugar. This gives the cookie an added sugar taste on the outside of the cookie.

You can even add a little sprinkle of sugar to the top after the cookie is finished.

You will notice these cookies have a beautiful fork indentation across the top. This isn’t necessary but it holds the sugar better especially if you add sugar after the baking process.

This particular recipe makes 3 dozen cookies. You can make them a little smaller and thicker to get more out of the batter. It’s a beautiful cookie for the season especially if you like the smell of fresh cookies in your kitchen!

Happy Holidays!
