I’m a little under the weather so I’ve reached for my trusted cure-all….my green tea!  I love green tea especially when I’m not feeling my best.  It gives me the boost of energy and soothes my scratch throat.  But did you know there are a ton of health benefits of green tea.  As it turns out, green tea is the rock star of all teas.  And the more it’s studied, the more benefits researchers are finding.

I actually started drinking this TAZO Green Tea as part of my weight loss plan.   I would drink one cup in the afternoon to jump start my metabolism.  It really worked.  Or at least I think it worked, I lost 20 pounds while on this plan.  Green tea is also very calming.  It has a wonderful smell and decreases stress!

But the benefits of green tea go way beyond relieving stress (although that was enough for me!).

Green tea has long been thought to fight cancer.   Green tea can actually prevent or slow the growth of prostate and breast cancers. A study shows that men who drank green tea had less prostate issue inflammation and lower levels of protein PSA (which is the indicator of prostate cancer).

Another study in China shows people who drink green tea lower their risk of other cancers like stomach, esophageal, prostate, pancreatic and colorectal. Wow. There are also other medical conditions that can be helpful: rheumatoid arthritis, high cholesterol levels, and cardiovascular disease!

So what’s in green tea to make it so good?
The secret is the catechin polyphenols, especially the EGCG! This is an anti-oxidant that kills cancer cells, lessens the growth of cancer cells without harming healthy tissue.

So how much can green tea help?
There is much debate on how much you should drink. Because of the caffeine, it’s said that no more than two to three cups a day. But some say you can drink up to five cups a day. Use your judgement and see how it makes you feel.

Regardless, everyone should consider introducing green tea into their diets..
