Spicy Nuts

I would consider myself an expert snacker — not just any snack, a homemade snack!  I enjoy a snack I get to make and not just open.


This Spicy Nuts recipe fits that bill.  And if you are planning a wine and cheese party, this appetizer is perfect!

Spicy Nuts 3

The main character in this recipe is, of course, a bowl of mixed nuts. Pick whatever you like. I used a pre-made mixed nuts container at Costco and added a few walnuts and pecans to round it out. You need about 2 cups of nuts.

Coat the nuts first with the whites of one egg.  Slightly beat the egg whites before you pour over the nuts.

In a separate bowl, mix the spices together. You need brown sugar, sea salt, ground cumin, ground cinnamon, cayenne pepper and ground ginger.

Add the spices to the bowl of nuts.

And mix together.

Pre-heat the oven to 350 degrees and add a piece of parchment paper to a cookie sheet. You will then spread the nuts out on the cookie sheet.

Bake for 15-20 minutes until the nuts are completely toasted.

Let the nuts cool and then break apart. The original recipe called for maple bacon on top but I didn’t care for it. It was better without.

Eat by itself or serve with a cheese plate. These are yummy and are perfect for a party of a night in.

Cook Time 20 minutes
Total Time 45 minutes

Ingredients

  • 2 cups Mixed Raw Nuts
  • 1 egg white lightly beaten
  • 2 tablespoons Dark Brown Sugar firmly packed
  • 1 tablespoon Sea Salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon Ground Cumin
  • 1/4 teaspoon Ground Cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon Cayenne Pepper
  • 1/4 teaspoon Ground Ginger

Instructions

  1. Pre-heat oven to 350 degrees
  2. Line a cookie sheet with parchment paper
  3. Put 2 cups of nuts in a large bowl and add the egg white to coat the nuts
  4. In a separate bowl, mix together the dark brown sugar, sea salt, ground cumin, ground cinnamon, cayenne pepper and ground ginger
  5. Add the spice mixture to the nuts and mix completely
  6. Spread out the nuts on your cookie sheet
  7. Bake for 15-20 minutes until the nuts are toasted
  8. Let cool and separate the nuts before you serve

Recipe Notes

This recipe is adapted from one I found at Williams Sonoma. It originally called for maple bacon slices on top but it was better without. If you want to add the bacon, I used 4 slices coated with maple syrup -- bake in oven, cut up into smaller pieces and add to the finished nuts.
