Why Banana Bread is so Good

Banana Bread is one of those recipes that are not only perfect for your family, but it’s a great food to share with friends and family. I love making a loaf of banana bread and sharing it with my neighbors. This particular recipe is rich in flavor and so easy to make. Check out the video below to see how easy it is to make!

Ingredients for Banana Bread

  • Bananas – Of course we start with bananas. You want to pick bananas that are starting to brown and go bad. These make the best bananas for baking. Find 3 ripe bananas and mash them.
  • All-Purpose Flour, Baking Soda, Salt – Most baking will include a list of dry ingredients. This recipe calls for these three dry ingredients to be mixed together and set aside.
  • Unsalted Butter, Sugar, 1 egg + 1 egg yolk, sour cream, vanilla extract – These ingredients are combined as the wet ingredients. The butter is melted first and then combined with the rest of the ingredients.
  • Walnuts – Finally toasted walnuts are added for a nice crunch to the bread. These are optional if you like traditional, baked banana bread.

How to Make Banana Bread

  • Start by preheating your oven to 350 degrees. Line your loaf pan with parchment paper and grease with cooking spray.
  • Add the walnuts to a small cookie sheet and toast for a few minutes in the oven. Set aside to cool.
  • In a small bowl, remove the peel and mash the bananas with a fork.
  • Then whisk together the flour, baking soda, and salt.
  • Melt the butter in a small saucepan. Next, in a large bowl, pour the melted butter over the sugar, egg and egg yolk, sour cream, and vanilla. Mix together until completely combined.
  • Add the mashed bananas to the wet ingredients and mix by hand.
  • Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet until combined.
  • Fold the walnuts into the batter and transfer them to the loaf pan. Save a few walnuts for the top.
  • Bake for about an hour or until your toothpick comes out clean. Let cool in the pan for 10 minutes, then remove and put on a cooling rack to cool the rest of the way.

Notes

  • When using bananas for this recipe, keep in mind the older the better. You want the bananas as soft as possible. Do not use fresh bananas.
  • If you want a chocolate flare to the bread, add some chocolate chips to add a variety.
  • Don’t like walnuts in your banana bread, no worries — you can just leave them out. But if you do want to use walnuts, toast them just a little bit in the oven.
