My Grandma’s Irish Soda Bread

Total Time 1 hour 30 minutes

Ingredients

  • 3 cups Flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon Salt
  • 3 teaspoons Baking Powder
  • 1/2 cup Sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon Baking Soda
  • 1 cup Raisins
  • 1 1/4 cup Buttermilk
  • 1/2 cup Shortening melted
  • 1 Egg

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 375 degrees
  2. Mix all dry ingredients starting from the top of the ingredients
  3. Fold raisins well through the flour
  4. Mix the buttermilk, egg and melted shortening together and add dry ingredients
  5. Mix until it forms a stiff dough
  6. Place dough in a 9 x 9 or a loaf pan
  7. Bake at 375 for 1 hour
  8. Cool for 15 minutes
  9. Eat warm or cold

Recipe Notes

I actually didn't mix the wet ingredients before putting it with the dry ingredients and it seemed to work fine.
