Start by cutting up the strawberries. Add the chopped strawberries to a bowl with 1/2 cup of the sugar. The sugar will melt into the strawberries. After 15 minutes, add to a food processor or blender and puree until smooth.
In a mixing bowl, combine the strawberry puree with the heavy cream, whole milk, vanilla extract, salt, and 1/2 cup of remaining sugar. Mix until the sugar is completely dissolved.
Add to your ice cream maker and follow instructions. It usually takes about 30-40 minutes.
Remove and pour into an ice cream container or chilled bread loaf pan. Serve frozen or store in the freezer for later use.
