Ingredients

  • 1-2 Granny Smith Apples peeled and sliced
  • 1 Pie Crust homemade or store-bought
  • 1/4 cup Brown Sugar packed
  • 1 tablespoon Lemon Juice
  • 1 teaspoon Cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon Nutmeg
  • Egg + tablespoon of water for egg wash
  • Turbinado Sugar for sprinkling

Instructions

  1. Pre-heat oven to 400 degrees

  2. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper and roll out the pie crust into a circle shape

  3. In a mixing bowl, combine the brown sugar, lemon juice, cinnamon, and nutmeg. Add the apple slices and make sure each one is completely covered in the sauce.

  4. Circle the apples around the pie crust leaving about 2 inches around the edges. Fill in the middle with additional apples. Fold over the edges of the pie crust to cover some of the apples.

  5. Once the edges are rolled over, drizzle the remaining sauce over the apples. And brush the egg wash on the rolled over dough. Sprinkle with the sugar.

  6. Bake for 20-25 minutes or until the pie crust is starting to brown and the apples are soft. Serve warm.

Recipe Notes

  • This recipe calls for Granny Smith apples but you can use Honeycrisp, Braeburn, or Pink Ladies.
  • A Puff Pastry sheet can also be used for this galette instead of a pie crust.
  • I used Turbinado sugar as a topping to the crust. This sugar is thicker and works great with the egg wash. But if you don't have it, regular granulated sugar will also work.
